Abu Dhabi(News Desk)::Al Ain University announced the restructuring of the University’s Board of Trustees, headed by Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoon bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, and the membership of Dr. Nooraldeen Subhi Atatreh as Vice Chairman, Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, Alia Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Dr. Abdul Rahman Mahmoud Al Afifi, Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Latif, and Mr Ahmed Al-Kilani.
Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoon bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, confirmed that the new restructuring of the Council comes within the context of the University to continue the process of academic development and excellence. Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoon explained that the university has advanced in regional and international academic ranking supervised by major international institutions, which confirms the distinguished reputation that the university has succeeded in achieving in local and Arab academic circles through its diverse and accredited programs and its distinguished performance.
Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoon stressed that Al Ain University has become an important academic institution that enhances the higher education process in the UAE, and a beacon for attracting foreign students to study and learn there and benefit from the advanced academic and educational experiences it provides them.
Sheikh Theyab bin Tahnoon stressed the university’s keenness to keep pace with the latest developments in the educational process and the rapid developments taking place in academic education systems in Arab countries and the world, which demonstrates the distinguished performance, hard work and efforts exerted to improve the quality of education and scientific research within a diverse and distinguished competitive environment.
He pointed out the importance of the university’s commitment to providing the best services to enhance the quality of education in order to develop and advance society.
It is worth mentioning that Al Ain University was established in 2005 as an educational institution aiming for leadership in education at the local, Arab, and global levels. At COP28, EGME led the charge in electric mobility, laying the groundwork for a transition away from fossil fuels

Dubai(News Desk):: Emirates Global Motor Electric (EGME) – a member of Al Fahim Group and a leading UAE-based electric vehicle and energy storage solutions provider – played a pivotal role in supporting sustainable operations at the recently concluded COP28 by providing electric mobility solutions during the conference. As part of its commitment to sustainability, EGME introduced groundbreaking measures during the global climate conference, including the operation of a 24/7 intercity electric bus service between Abu Dhabi Airport and EXPO city in collaboration with ITC public transport. This marked a significant milestone as it is a first-of-its-kind initiative, where intercity electric buses ran 44 trips per day, setting a new standard for eco-friendly transportation in the region. EGME also provided ‘MCV C120 EV’ electric buses for the transport of COP28 delegates to Masdar City. Daily buses shuttled COP28 delegates from EXPO City, Dubai to Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. Masdar City is known for its pioneering sustainability initiatives and housing a significant number of prominent institutions working with renewable and green energy solutions.

The company also provided EXPO City with a fleet of electric cargo vans for COP28, which has become a significant component in supporting the conference’s operations throughout its duration. This move underscores EGME’s dedication to sustainable practices and its role in powering major global events with eco-friendly transportation solutions.

To facilitate 24/7 electric vehicle operations during COP28, EGME utilized multiple charging solutions, including Depot charging and a Mobile charging truck, both of which are provided by EGME in-house.

was conducted to measure the date palm tree carbon footprint

Dubai(News Desk)::Under the directives of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, the Award’s General Secretariat issued “The Date Palm Carbon Footprint” book, in English language, where the book’s launching ceremony took place at the UAE pavilion, COP28, under the supervision of Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Award’s Secretary General. This was in the presence of H.E. Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, H.E. Prof. Ibrahim El-Dukheiri, Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, H.E. Aly Abu Sabea, Director
General of International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas(ICARDA). H.E. Dr. Helal Humaid Saed Al Kaabi, member of the Award’s Board of Trustees, along with the participating Award team and a
number of experts and guests.

In the book’s introduction, H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahayan,emphasized the important role that the blessed tree plays in reducing the effects of climate change. Dr. Zaid, Award’s Secretary General, also
pointed out that the agricultural sector in general has a crucial role in reducing the impact of global warming, through absorbing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, the most important of which are Carbon dioxide (CO2). Plants and trees in general absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during the process of photosynthesis, in which sunlight is converted into chemical energy. The carbon dioxide and water are then
used to produce sugar and oxygen. Therefore, the larger the agricultural area, the more carbon dioxide can be absorbed from the atmosphere.

On the other hand, Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Award’s Secretary General,indicated that the launching of this book comes within the framework of participation to the official delegation of the United Arab Emirates in the Climate Change Conference (COP28), where he added that making the most of agriculture as a mean to store carbon requires a balance between sustainable practices and nutritional needs. Hence, comes the importance of the date palm tree, as it is one of the most important trees with the ability to seize carbon dioxide gas from the atmosphere and store it within the dry mass of the palm tree. Since one tree’s capture of CO2 gas depends on the size and area of the green parts, the date palm tree is characterized by its large size. The size and density of its fronds, therefore, the amount of carbon stored by the palm tree is very large, especially if we know that the NENA region includes more than one hundred million palm trees.

Therefore, the importance of the Award’s interest in measuring the carbon footprint of the date palm tree according to a documented scientific method, because of its Strategic importance in mitigating the effects of climate change. Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, also confirmed that we can estimate the amount of carbon sequestered by a single 10-year-old date palm tree within the UAE environment at approximately 368 kg of
carbon within the biomass and soil in which it is grown.

From his side, Dr. Bassam Saeed Dahi, an expert in the carbon footprint, explained that what distinguishes this study is the use of satellite images and geospatial modeling that uses remote sensing variables, and which opens a wide scope for the use of these technologies in the future to improve managing the environment and sustainable planning of the natural resources, as well as supporting the country’s efforts to reduce the effects of climate change and reduce the carbon footprint through expanding date
palm cultivation, as well as other plants in arid regions.

Dubai(News Desk):: Internationally acclaimed spiritual leader and humanitarian activist, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, known for his contributions to peacebuilding, disaster and trauma relief, poverty alleviation, and climate action, arrived in the United Arab Emirates for a weeklong series of vital engagements including strategic dialogues with the leadership of the UAE and high level discussions at COP28.

His visit began with a meeting at the royal residence of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and member of the Supreme Council. During the meeting, a diverse range of topics were discussed, encompassing campaigns to raise awareness of virtuous human values and the necessity for peaceful coexistence. In the coming days, Gurudev will additionally address the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) with a keynote address and opening remarks where he will elaborate upon the importance of internal transformation as a strategy to foster a sustainable lifestyle and achieve a state of balance between human activities and the environment. He will also participate actively in a panel discussion organized by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) centered around the Faith Pavilion, which will explore the profound impact that interfaith collaboration can have on sustainable land management. Manufactured by SANY, and Sany’s UAE Agent EGME, these heavy-duty trucks boast an impressive and completely unprecedented 80-ton Gross Combined Weight (GCW) capacity. Unlike any other options in the UAE market at the time, these trucks offer battery ranges of 250 to 800 kilometers, coupled with the convenience of fast charging and battery swapping within just seven minutes. DSV is committed to developing an extensive charging network throughout Abu Dhabi and the other emirates.
