  • Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital performs UAE’s first artificial ligament surgery with LARS on an Italian patient

Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital performs UAE’s first artificial ligament surgery with LARS on an Italian patient

Medcare Orthopaedics &Spine Hospital performs UAE’s first
artificial ligament surgery with LARS on an Italian patient

Dr. Massimo Piracci, Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon at Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine
Hospital introduces LARS with artificial ligament to help the 44-year-old patient, who met
with a severe knee injury during a football match in Dubai a few years ago.

2. Studies say that knee injuries are notably five times more frequent in the UAE than in other
parts of the world and are witnessing an upward trajectory.

Dubai(News Desk):: Italian executive chef and football enthusiast, Mr. Cosimo Danese, underwent the first Ligament Augmentation and Reconstruction Surgery (LARS) in the UAE conducted recently at Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital in Dubai. The innovative procedure helped the 44-year-old patient regain mobility and recover from persistent pain, following a severe knee injury.

This pioneering approach indicates a new chapter in orthopaedic care in the region, helping Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital achieve a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare sector. Mr. Cosimo, an aspiring professional foot baller from Italy, had to put his love for football on hold after sustaining a knee injury during a tournament in Dubai in 2020. As a means to overcome the setback caused by the accident, Mr. Cosimo underwent a conventional ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) surgery performed using his tendon as the graft in 2020.Unfortunately, this surgical procedure was insufficient, and he was unable to resume playing football. Everyday chores like climbing stairs and standing for long periods of time, both of which are required in his line of work as an executive chef, often became intimidating hurdles for him to endure. Despite the lack of recent injuries, he faced ongoing challenges of severe pain and limited knee movement. These difficulties were made more complex by the presence of elevated cholesterol levels, which added complications to both the diagnosis and treatment processes.

Mr. Cosimo arrived at Medcare Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital seeking relief from chronic knee pain and underwent a pioneering LARS artificial ligament treatment – the first of its kind in the UAE – spearheaded by Dr. Massimo Piracci, Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon. The surgery repaired the damaged tissues within his knee, introducing an innovative approach to complex orthopaedic challenges. Instead of utilizing an allograft, which involves transplanting tissue from another individual, Dr. Massimo opted for an artificial ligament. Artificial ligaments are synthetic structures designed to mimic the function of natural ligaments.
;The procedure stands out for its precision-engineered synthetic grafts replicating natural ligaments.
These customizable implants, in various materials and designs, cater to individual patient needs
ensuring seamless integration. Restoring joint stability, function, and mobility, this surgery enables a
return to restricted activities. Technological advancements enhance these implants, allowing
minimally invasive procedures and better long-term outcomes, significantly improving patients quality of life,” Dr. Massimo elaborated.

According to him, navigating the patients intricate situation posed several challenges. Typically, the recommended course of action would involve ACL revision and cartilage repair. 1 However, faced with the complexity of the case, the medical team opted for the innovative approach of utilizing the LARS artificial ligament. “Notably, this treatment had not been explored in the Middle East region before, but it was deemed the optimal solution for the patient due to its comprehensive approach to knee treatment and the
potential for enhanced functional recovery. Post-treatment, Cosimo now experiences proper sensations in his knee and eagerly anticipates a return to football,” he said. “Remarkably, recovery with the LARS artificial ligament outperforms that of the allograft, with patients frequently regaining mobility extremely fast, sometimes as soon as the same day of surgery and up to six weeks later. Individuals can transition from crutches to walking, running, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods of time after the operation because of the quick recovery time,” Dr. Massimo added.

“The surgery involved an ACL revision, combined with innovative methods like Hyalofast for knee cartilage regeneration. Additionally, platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injections were used to promote healing in the damaged knee cartilage. This complex approach aimed to address ACL concerns and rejuvenate the knees cartilage, blending advanced techniques for optimal results,” he remarked.
Grateful for the expertise and dedicated care provided by Dr. Massimo Piracci and his team at Medcare Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital, Mr. Cosimo Danese expressed profound appreciation. “After undergoing this transformative surgery, my life has taken an incredible turn. This surgery has not only relieved my physical burden but has also opened new doors of possibilities, filling my days with improved confidence. I am grateful for the positive change it has brought into my life. With the steady recovery I am experiencing, I am quite confident now that I can return to football after this treatment. The restored hope and strength this surgery has granted me are truly remarkable,” he said.
Interestingly, among knee injuries, ACL injuries emerge as highly prevalent, making up about 40 per
cent of all sports-related injuries. In the UAE, these injuries are notably five times more frequent  than in other parts of the world and are witnessing an upward trajectory. 2 Annually, over 200,000 ACL injuries are reported in USA with nearly half requiring knee reconstruction. A significant 70 per cent of these injuries occur while playing agility sports like basketball, soccer, skiing, and football. 3Dr. Massimo highlighted the significance of this milestone treatment, stating, “This accomplishment not only raises the bar for care standards at Medcare but also establishes a benchmark for advanced treatments in the region. It unlocks opportunities for adopting more innovative approaches that can prove beneficial for patients struggling with intricate orthopaedic challenges. This success emphasizes our dedication to pushing the frontiers of healthcare within the region.”
The improvement in Mr. Cosimos knee function stands as a major achievement in orthopaedic medicine offered in the UAE, helping Medcare expand its solutions to more patients beyond the region. Medcare Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital remains persistent in its dedication to intricate surgeries and effective remedies. Through its emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, the state- of-the-art technology, and a highly skilled medical team, the hospital consistently maintains exceptional standards of safety and efficiency.———xx———-

VerifyTime reduced undelivered hours by 65% and improved site attendance by 37%*

Transforming timekeeping: WakeCap redefines workforce management with official launch of VerifyTime

VerifyTime reduced undelivered hours by 65% and improved site attendance by 37%*

Dubai(News Desk):: WakeCap, a leader in smart solutions for construction project management, today announces the launch of VerifyTime, a cloud-based workforce management solution designed to automate, verify, and streamline the manual timekeeping process on construction sites.

The launch represents a significant milestone in construction timekeeping. Fast and effective timekeeping is the bedrock of a project’s success. In construction, labor hours, equipment, materials, and other costs must be accurately measured and reported. This role usually falls to the site team and can be prone to errors and delays. VerifyTime replaces conventional timekeeping methods and brings a new level of transparency to the construction industry.

Digitization of tools and workflows is the single most important development in the construction industry today, representing the biggest potential for sweeping improvements and cost-savings. VerifyTime, including a smart hard-hat solution for construction, outperforms traditional workforce management systems and directly addresses long-standing pain points related to timekeeping such as managing productivity and improving efficiency.

VerifyTime is built on WakeCap’s patented sensor technology hardware and data analytics software. It delivers data thanks to information collected through a knob attached to a standard safety helmet worn by site workers. An easy-to-install mesh network connects the entire site to WakeCap’s secure cloud network. Site owners and management teams receive impartial, accurate, and scientific data, monitoring efficiency instead of relying on traditional timekeeping methods. This digitized and automated data is readily available through a mobile application, eliminating manual work and significantly reducing report turnaround time.

VerifyTime’s software can be used on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. It allows timekeepers, managers, and payroll teams to collect and integrate data in real-time, greatly reducing the time it takes to collect and analyze information about the workforce. Because the data is digital and avoids human bias, it is significantly more accurate and reliable. VerifyTime provides ‘at-your fingertips’ data analytics in an easy-to-understand dashboard format, with charts and graphs that offer a visual representation of the data, and metrics over time.

“At WakeCap, we’ve always believed that visibility and transparency are key to improving efficiency in the construction industry. With VerifyTime, we’re addressing two of the biggest challenges in construction — finishing projects on time and keeping them within budget. Delays result in penalties, and VerifyTime can help mitigate that risk,” said Hassan Albalawi, CEO and co-founder of WakeCap. “Digital technology is redefining how we work. Its potential

to transform traditional workflows is huge.”

*One WakeCap client reported that since implementing VerifyTime, they were able to reduce undelivered hours by 65%. In that same period, site attendance improved by 37%.

Key features of VerifyTime include accurate time tracking, automated timesheets, attendance & timekeeping, payroll integration, compliance and reporting, and trend analysis. These features collectively help in pinpointing and calculating undelivered work hours, allowing managers to take corrective measures promptly. The technology also generates trend reports to understand the reasons for lost hours, such as delays due to broken machinery, contributing significantly to decision-making processes aimed at minimizing waste.

“VerifyTime offers a real-time dashboard showing what’s happening in the office, onsite, and beyond. Having real-time data helps our clients be proactive in decision making, ensuring fair and precise compensation for all employees. VerifyTime enables better resource planning, improves productivity, and enhances operational efficiency to reduce unnecessary project labor costs,” says Salpie Kechichian, Head of Product Management at WakeCap. “It sets a completely new standard for timekeeping and the potential for improving productivity, efficiency and saving costs is enormous – as some of our clients are already discovering for themselves.”

WakeCap’s commitment to transforming construction into a transparent, data-driven industry has seen it recognized with several industry accolades, including winning the 2018 Start-up City Pitch Competition at The Big 5, a leading construction industry event in the Middle East. With the official launch of VerifyTime, WakeCap continues to pioneer innovative solutions that replace outdated paper-based processes with precise data collection methods, streamlining workflows, and creating significant time and cost savings.

REDWOOD CENTER OF EXCELLENCE BECOMES THE FIRST PRE-SCHOOL IN THE U.A.E. TO RECEIVE THE
    INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) PYP ACCREDITATION

    • Redwood Center of Excellence becomes the first and only independent IB World pre-
    school in the UAE.
The PYP is an example of best educational practice globally, responding to the challenges
and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world. It has evolved to
become a world leader in future-focused education.
 Children graduating from Redwood Center of Excellence with the IB PYP will have a
significant advantage in enrolling into Primary Schools and adapting to learning
environments at top schools across the world.

Dubai(News Desk):: Redwood Center of Excellence has become the first independent pre-school in
the U.A.E. to offer the globally acclaimed International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

A pioneering concept that is owned and operated by the Dubai-based Kids First Group, Redwood CoE for short, first opened its doors in April 2022 and less than 2 years later was authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) as a World Pre-School to offer the Primary Years Programme. The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally-minded people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.

“Redwood CoE offers the IB PYP within the innovative blended curriculum of Montessori, Reggio, EYFS and STEM – this is not found in any other setting or school, comments Kamil Najjar, CEO of Kids First Group, It’s an honor to receive such a prestigious authorization, following a strict process monitored by the IB and we’re proud to be the first to set a new standard for early childhood learning in the U.A.E.”

The IB is a global organization that has been around since 1968 and it is organized into 4 programmes, one of those is the Primary Years Programme now available at Redwood CoE until the age of 6. The first six years in a child’s life are critical. A child’s future wellbeing, attainment, happiness and choices are profoundly affected by the quality of the guidance, care and opportunities they receive during these formative years. By choosing an enabling and interactive learning environment, to allow for more personalised learning, means they are more ‘school ready’ and likely to flourish once they enter the education system.
“Many schools offer the Primary Years Programme, but the benefit of staying in a pre-school setting is the extra care young children receive in a nurturing, safe environment where they get to explore without pressure, contributing positively to their adaptability and confidence,” IB PYP coordinator, Sima Abou Chacra explains. In addition to the above, parents are choosing to opt for this option to early learning for the educator ratios as well as the flexibility in hours since Redwood CoE is open until 6 pm, throughout the year.
The PYP is a student-centered approach to education that offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. This means that students learn across subject areas while inquiring into big ideas. The PYP at CoE is conducted through an abundance of Active Play which nurtures young learners’ holistic development, unlike Early Years Departments in schools which are part of a wider instruction-led, standardized school system and more heavily orientated towards testing and assessment from a young age.  “Play is often one of the first activities to be taken away from children in schools to replace it with more ‘formal’ proper learning,” says Geraldine Hill, Director/Head of Research
    Development.
By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, PYP students develop the attributes of the IB Learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities, and beyond.“The programme’s approach to learning allows students to adapt easily to any big school they transition to, no matter which programme they follow.” comments Elizabeth  Scahill, Director at Redwood Center of Excellence. The IB learner profile represents a broad range of human dispositions, capacities and traits that encompass intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth such as “risk taker,” “principled,” “inquirer,” “thinker,” “caring,”and others. Developing and demonstrating the attributes of the learner profile is an expression
of what the IB means by international-mindedness.
The PYP curriculum recognizes learners’ innate potential to inquire, question, wonder and theorize about themselves, others, and the world around them. They’re self-directed in their learning, they know how to identify problems and how to use their skills to solve them. The environment is seen as a teacher, and students are partners in the learning process.
With over 55 nationalities currently recorded at Redwood CoE, it’s only fitting that such a programme is inducted into the early learning center that seeks to raise “future-ready” children in a multicultural city. Each school decides specific concepts and topics studied through each theme based on their local context so Redwood CoE’s commitment to the U.A.E.’s culture remains the same, if not stronger.ENDS
