Abu Dhabi Police organizes a dialogue session on international and national mechanisms to protect the rights of special groups
AbuDhabi(News Desk)::The Community Police Department of the Criminal Security Sector of Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Law Respect Culture Office of the General Department of Community Protection and Crime Prevention at the Ministry of Interior, organized a police dialogue session as part of its annual agenda to raise awareness among police personnel. The session addressed the topic of “International and National Mechanisms for Protecting the Rights of Special Groups,” at the Martyr’s Theater at the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police.
Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to enhance its security and societal responsibilities in crime prevention, in order to preserve national gains and its keenness to spread the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence in society.He explained that the United Arab Emirates takes into consideration and care the concept of human rights according to Islamic law as the main source of legislation, and cites the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
The session was attended by Brigadier Dr. Hamoud Saeed Al Afari, Director of the Community Police Department, Colonel Sultan Al Ketbi, Director of the Office of the Culture of Respect for the Law at the Ministry of Interior, a number of directors of directorates and departments in the Criminal Security Sector, and a large number of members of the command.
Major Amna Juma Al Ketbi, Head of the Consulting and Studies Section at the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the UAE’s great interest in protecting human rights, especially the rights of special groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly, through a set of international and national mechanisms at the international level, and its commitment to international agreements and treaties that aim to protect human rights, and its pioneering efforts at the national level to develop legislation and policies that guarantee the rights of these groups.
Lieutenant Abdullah Ali Al Shamsi from the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior explained that the UAE applies an integrated system of international and national mechanisms to guarantee the rights of special groups, and seeks to achieve a balance between international obligations and local needs, and continues to promote these rights through national legislation, policies and government institutions with the aim of enhancing the protection and well-being of these groups and providing a safe and inclusive environment for all members of society.
The session discussed the definition of international conventions, laws and legislations related to special groups in society, and their role in providing them with decent living conditions, enhancing community protection and prevention, and preserving their rights. It reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in protecting the rights of these groups and working to harness all capabilities and adopt special procedures and mechanisms in a way that ensures meeting the needs and requirements of these groups in their various police, service and security dealings. The session was moderated by First Assistant Issa Saeed Al Jadidi from Abu Dhabi Police.
