    A citizen in his seventies died today – Tuesday – after his vehicle was swept away upon entering Asfani Valley, located within the southern regions belt in Ras Al Khaimah.

    Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command expressed sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, praying to Allah Almighty to envelop him with His vast mercy and grant him paradise.

    Ras Al Khaimah Police pointed out that the unfortunate incident occurred when the citizen attempted to enter the valley with his vehicle, despite the strong water flow and high water levels resulting from heavy rainfall since the early hours of the morning across various emirates of the country.

    It added that upon receiving the report, specialized teams were dispatched to the scene, and the body of the seventy-year-old citizen was retrieved and handed over to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.

    Ras Al Khaimah Police urged the public to stay in their homes and avoid venturing out except when necessary, emphasizing the importance of staying away from valley flow areas and refraining from risking entry into them, to ensure their safety amid the ongoing rainy weather affecting most areas of the country.

    The General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police has intensified its efforts amidst the fluctuating weather conditions and heavy rainfall in the emirate, affecting various internal and external roads and water gathering areas. This is being done by providing assistance to the public and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Efforts have also been intensified to deal with all reports and incidents received by the operations room, aiming to control traffic accidents and emergencies.

    Brigadier Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director General of Police Operations in Umm Al Quwain, stated that in coordination with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the Civil Defense Administration in Umm Al Quwain, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Water and Electricity Authority, the local media team, the Umm Al Quwain Municipality, and the Red Crescent, 16 affected families were sheltered during the day, and actions were taken to address reports of rain accumulation by closing some roads affected by water accumulation and redirecting vehicles to alternative routes.

    Caution Advised

    Umm Al Quwain Police has urged all drivers and road users to exercise caution while driving in these conditions, to avoid accidents and injuries that may result from water pooling on roads or from driving at excessive speeds without attention. They emphasized their readiness to confront rainfall, weather fluctuations, and the expected unsettled weather conditions, as well as to provide support and assistance to vehicles affected by weather conditions.

    The General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police appealed to the public to cooperate and follow the guidance issued by the relevant authorities in the state, and not to spread rumors or news before verifying their official sources. They also reaffirmed their full readiness to promptly respond to all emergency reports on the number (999) around the clock, to ensure a swift response to emergency situations.

    According to a statement released by the National Center of Meteorology, the United Arab Emirates experienced the highest rainfall in its recent history over the past 24 hours, in many areas, marking the largest since the beginning of climate data recording in 1949.

    The National Center of Meteorology confirmed that the record-breaking rainfall amounts that fell on the country during the past 24 hours until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, constitute an exceptional event in the climatic history of the UAE since the beginning of climate data recording. It is expected that the coming hours will witness even greater rainfall amounts.

    The center mentioned that so far, the highest amount of rainfall has been recorded in the Khatm Al Shaklah area in Al Ain, reaching 254.8 mm in less than 24 hours. Additionally, the National Center of Meteorology stations in the country recorded heavy rainfall amounts in several areas.

    It is noteworthy that the Al Shawamekh station recorded 287.6 mm on March 9, 2016.

    Such heavy rainfall represents an exceptional event contributing to an increase in the annual average rainfall in the United Arab Emirates, as well as enhancing the groundwater reserves in the country overall.

    Mohammed bin Rashid issues Decree forming Board of Trustees of UAE Water Aid Foundation – Suqia – UAE

    His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, issued Decree No. (31) of 2024 forming the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia). According to the Decree, the Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will chair the Board.

    The Board includes a representative each from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emirates Red Crescent, United Arab Emirates University and Khalifa University. Additionally, it includes three representatives from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the CEO of the UAE Water Aid Foundation.

    As per the Decree, the representatives of these entities must be nominated by their executives and hold senior positions.

    The Decree is effective from its date of issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.
