    ABU DHABI (Press Release)- The Abu Dhabi Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has elected its new Managing Committee for the year 2023 during its recent Annual General Meeting.

    At its 38th annual general meeting held recently, the ICAI Abu Dhabi chapter elected CA John George as Chairman, CA Krishnan N V as Vice Chairman, CA Rohit Dayma as General Secretary and CA Priyanka Birla as the Treasurer.

    Other members elected to lead the Main Committees are CA Anu Thomas (Professional Development Committee), CA Ajay Singhvi (Social), CA Mohammed Shafeek (Membership), CA Shafeekh Neelayil (Communication) and CA Ramesh Dave (Media and Student Affairs).In addition, the members elected are CA Rajesh Reddy, CA Monish Mohan, CA Suma Rajesh, CA Ankit Kothari and CA Nirmal Agarwal as sub-committee members to support the main committees.

    Newly elected chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chapter of ICAI, CA John George congratulated the entire team including committee, past chairmen, sponsors, speakers, supporters, well-wishers and chapter members for winning 1st Prize for the Best Overseas Chapter for 2022 (Category 1). John expressed sincere gratitude to all chapter members for continued support and commitment to take our chapter to more height.

    CA John congratulated the elected committee for the year 2023 and also acknowledged the immense contribution made by all dedicated committee members of the year 2022. He expressed thanks to the Indian Embassy, H.E. Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India and its officials for guidance and support to the Chapter.

    CA John mentioned about India taking over the lead for G20 Presidency in the “Amritkaal”, the 25-year period beginning from the 75th anniversary of its independence, leading up to the centenary of its independence. ICAI Abu Dhabi Chapter will extend its support towards a futuristic, prosperous, inclusive society and at the same time fulfilling its sustainable development goals.Chairman also highlighted about the CEPA progress as one year completed since the historic agreement signed was signed by both UAE and India (CEPA) and also highlighted that Chapter will continue to act as bridge between Government, Indian Embassy and Indian community to achieve the goals of CEPA. Our efforts will be to encourage start-ups and organize events where CA members can guide the Abu Dhabi business community in utilizing new business opportunities. In addition, we will be promoting initiatives by the Indian government such as Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

    During the AGM, the chapter’s activity report for the year 2022 was presented by the Vice Chairman CA Krishnan NV.CA Krishnan highlighted on the plan for the next year which include providing continual professional education, employment opportunities, promoting CA as a career, organizing social responsibility initiative, empowering women members, mutual cooperation with the other GCC and International Chapters, engagement with Emirati nationals on accountancy profession.

    CA Krishnan stated that the Managing committee is fully committed to uplift the brand ICAI in the region and will focus on emerging new work avenues and professional opportunities for members by identification of new laws and upcoming changes. Also looking forward to liaising with various foreign universities & professional bodies to collaborate for the benefits of the members.

    The ICAI is the second largest accounting body in the world and currently has over 350,000 members. The Abu Dhabi Chapter of ICAI is one of the very active body among the overseas chapters of the institute. The Abu Dhabi Chapter has been in existence for the past 37 years and currently comprises about more than 700 members. The chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members through organizing professional seminars.

     H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan: The Award has become a platform for international partnerships, in the field of Date Palm Development Sector.

Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation Board of Trustees, extended his sincere appreciation to the patronage, guidance and  continuous support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Court, which contributed to strengthening the leading position of the United Arab Emirates in the development of the date palm cultivation sector nationally, regionally, and internationally, through cooperation with date producing countries, and concerned regional and international organizations. His Excellency also expressed his confidence in the efforts put by the Award’s General Secretariat, which played an important role in building international partnerships for the development of this sector.

    Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, during his speech at the press conference held on Monday, 20th of February, 2023, at Emirates Palace hotel, Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Dr. Helal Humaid Saed Al Kaabi, Member of the Award’s Board of Trustees, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, and Mr. Mohammed Ghanem Al Mansouri, representative of Al Foah company, announced the names of the Khalifa International Award winners, in its Fifteenth session, as well as the winners of the Distinguished and innovative farmer Award in the UAE, in its Fifth session.

Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees. Where 169 scientists, representing 26 countries did participate in the Award’s Fifteenth session.

    UAE Local Award Winners

    From his side, Dr. Helal Humaid Saed Al Kaabi, Member of the Award’s Board of Trustees, pointed out that the Distinguished and Innovative Farmer Award in the UAE, organized by the Award’s General Secretariat in cooperation with Al Foah company, has attracted during its Fifth session a group of local distinguished farm owners, with a total of 125 date growers, who produce the best and finest date palm varieties in the United Arab Emirates, the competition concentrated on five categories, where the winners were selected according to the approved criteria and mechanisms. Mr. Mohammed Ghanem Al Mansouri, representative of Al Foah Company also highlighted the great efforts put by the Award’s General Secretariat, in supervising and organizing the Distinguished and Innovative Farmer Award in the UAE. This Award reflects the great attention extended by our wise leadership, towards date palm growers in the UAE. Al Foah company also strives to serve date palm growers in the UAE, in cooperation with the Award’s General Secretariat, which aims to honor the distinguished and innovative farmers in the UAE to find a role model among date palm growers, and transfer their distinguished experiences to others.Based on the technical committee’s report, and which consists of experts representing the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and Al Foah company, the Award’s General Secretariat approved the winners’ names, and the results were as follows:

    AbuDhabi(News Desk)::Mr. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi presented copies of his credentials as Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to H.E. Abdulla Mohamed Alblooki, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.

    Ambassador Tirmizi has earlier served as Pakistan’s envoy to the Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek (2018-2019) and the Consul General of Pakistan, Chicago (2013-2018). His other diplomatic assignments in Pakistan Missions abroad included Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (1996-1999), Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland (2003-2007) and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2007-2010).
    During his tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, he handled multilateral, bilateral, consular and administrative matters.
    Before his appointment to the UAE, Ambassador Tirmizi held the dual charge of the Additional Secretary Administration and Americas in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad. He had earlier served as the Director General (Kashmir), Director to the Foreign Secretary’s Office, Director (Personnel) and Deputy Chief of Protocol besides the Desk Officer for India, Afghanistan, Central Asian Republics and Middle East.
    He is a post graduate of the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK.

    Nominations are now open for “Date Palm International Photography” competition in its 14th session, 2023, and “Date Palm International Poetry” competition in its 7th session, 2023.

     Nomination for both competitions is open until 31st of December, 2022.

     AbuDhabi(Urdu Weekly)::Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation Board of Trustees, the Award’s General Secretariat announced opening candidature for the “Date Palm International Photography” competition in its Thirteenth session, 2022. Professional photographers, and photography lovers from all over the world are invited to participate in this international competition, which is held in appreciation of the date palm tree and to enhance the role of photographers in enriching a places’ memory and reviving its environmental heritage. The Award’s General Secretariat also announced opening candidature for the “Date Palm International Poetry” competition in its 6th session, 2022. Where poets from all Arab countries are invited to participate in this international competition, in appreciation of the date palm tree, and accepting Arabic poetry in both dialects (Nabati and El Fasih). As it is an important mean that embraces developing the public’s awareness on the importance of the date palm tree in terms of heritage, agriculture, food and economy, and in strengthening the role of poetry in enriching a place’s memory and reviving its agricultural heritage.

     This came in a press statement made by Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation Secretary General, and highlighting the great success achieved in the past sessions, as this is reflected in the significant increase in the number of participants from around the world and the quality of the participations received.

    The two competitions come under the directives of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees, aiming to help strengthen the human relationship with the date palm tree, where this reflects the unlimited support of His Excellency for the blessed tree by employing the art of photography, and Arabic poetry to develop public awareness of the importance of the date palm tree, and creating a space for the exchange of cultures from across the world, also added Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid.Regarding the categories and awards of the two competitions, the Award’s Secretary-General indicated that the “Date Palm International Photography” competition consists of two categories: (Date Palm Category) and (Date Palm Handicrafts Category), where the “Date Palm International Poetry” competition consists of two categories also: (El Fasih Poetry) and (Nabati Poetry), as for the winners’ awards of the two competitions, they are as follows: the First place winner in each category receives an amount of 15,000 Emirati Dirhams, the Second place winner in each category receives an amount of 10,000 Emirati Dirhams, and the Third place winner in each category receives an amount of 5,000 Emirati Dirhams, in addition to an appreciation certificate, and a trophy.  Moving on to the evaluation mechanism, an international committee of experts in photography and poetry evaluate the received participations, where the deadline for receiving photos is the 31st of December, 2022, exclusively through the dedicated website (https://www.datepalmphoto.com/), while the deadline for receiving poems is the 31st of December, 2022, exclusively through the dedicated website (https://www.datepalmpoetry.com/).     Punjgor(Urdu Weekly)::The UAE Pakistan Assistance Program (UAE PAP) has announced the start of commercial production at Dates Processing Factory Punjgur in Pakistan, which was built in Panjgur district, Balochistan province by UAE PAP and funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) at a cost of US$6.36 million.

    The project was carried out under the directives of President H.H.Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the support of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and with the follow-up of H.H.     Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli, Director of UAE PAP, said that the start of production at Panjgur dates processing factory coincides with the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the urgent need of Pakistani families for high quality dates as a main food item on their Iftar tables.Al Ghafli hailed the support of the UAE’s leadership for the humanitarian programs and developmental projects that his organization is implementing in Pakistan, highlighting the UAE’s pioneering strategy in the field of humanitarian work. He pointed out that the follow-up and generous directives of Sheikh Mansour to enhance cooperation and activate humanitarian partnership programs with governments of target countries and international organizations, have helped in the successful enactment of development projects and the provision of humanitarian aid at high levels of quality, efficiency and accuracy.

    He stressed the importance of the Panjgur dates processing factory project, given that Pakistan is the sixth largest producer of dates in the world, with a production capacity of 556,000 tons per year. This project represents the start of a new stage for date production in Pakistan, which will expand interest in its agricultural resources and support its food security policy, he said. The project was built over an area of 5,710 square meters, adhering to the highest international specifications and standards, in terms of processing, packaging and the storing of dates. It includes 15 production lines, has a production capacity of 4 tons per hour, or more than 32,000 tons per day, and contains refrigeration that can store up to 1,500 tones of ready-made dates. The project was funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) which plays a significant role in supporting and financing development projects implemented by UAE PAP. Since 2013, total financing that ADFD offered for projects in Pakistan reached US$220 million.

     

    A number of farmers in the beneficiary areas of the project expressed their happiness over the opening of Panjgur dates processing factory which will help them market their dates products. They also thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the support they showed at a difficult time of crises and hardship through the implementation of initiatives and development projects.
