    AbuDhabi(News Desk)::Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture organised a ceremony at the Louvre Abu Dhabi to honour the winners of the 18th edition of the international Al Burda Award 2024.

    The event coincided with the 20th anniversary of the launch of this prestigious award, which celebrates exceptional creative works in traditional Islamic art.

    The honouring ceremony was attended by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Representative of the Arab Geopolitical Group in the Union’s Executive Committee; Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Centre for the Arabic Language; Huda Al Khamis Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation; Ahmed Al-Tazi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UAE; His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Chairman of the Environment and Climate Committee of the Aga Khan Development Network; and Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation; in addition to a number of ambassadors, directors, and heads of local departments.

    The ceremony commenced with an opening speech by Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture. He stressed that Al Burda Award serves as a global platform inspired by the tolerant values of Islam. The award celebrates the greatness of Islamic arts as a unifying language that connects peoples and fosters cultural dialogue among civilisations. This mission aligns with the UAE’s efforts to promote mutual understanding both within the region and across the world.

    He welcomed the Kingdom of Morocco, which was selected as the Guest of Honour for this year’s edition, in recognition of its remarkable contributions to the world of Islamic arts. This selection reaffirms the Award’s commitment to celebrating artistic excellence and Islamic cultural heritage.

    During the ceremony, the School of National Crafts and Arts in Tetouan received an appreciation award, in honour of its longstanding legacy in developing students’ artistic skills in several fields such as sculpture, ceramics, and design. The school’s efforts have played a pivotal role in preserving Morocco’s rich cultural heritage.

    The theme of this edition of the Award “Light,” is inspired by Surat Al-Ma’idah, verse 15: “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.” This year’s edition saw the participation of more than 1,080 artists from more than 50 countries around the world.

    Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi honoured the winners of the award, poet Yassin Hizqar won first place in the Modern Standard Arabic Poetry category, second place went to Najm Al Ali, third place went to Ahmed Mohsen Ahmed Muhammad Abdul Lahiy, and the fourth place went to Hussein Suleiman Abdullah, while Muhammad Abd Al Raouf Ali Al Tayeb came fifth. In the Nabati Poetry category, the poet Awad Al-Awad won first place, followed by Mohamed Hamdan Al Anazi in second place, Badriya Al Badri in third, Ali Mohamed Ibrahim Al Mujaini in fourth, and Badr Hamid Muhammad Al Bahlouli in fifth.

    In the Traditional Arabic Calligraphy category, Maryam Norouzi Khalilani won first place followed by Ahmed Ali Namazi in second, Abdul Baqi bin Abu in third, Mohamed Al Hamawi in fourth, and Saim Gunai in fifth. As for the Contemporary Arabic Calligraphy category, Daoudi Abdel Qader came in first, Somaya Khorasani in second, Diaa Al Jazairi in third, Mohamed Saeed in fourth, and Reda Jumai in fifth.

    In the Calligraphy – Traditional Ornament category, Afsaneh Mahdavi came in second place, followed by Mohsen Moradi in third, Mahbouba Ebrahimian in fourth, and Rayan Shida Goonen in fifth.

    This year, the award introduced three new categories: Freestyle Poetry, Contemporary Ornamentation, and Typographic Design. In the freestyle poetry, Ahmed Al Hattab won first place, followed by Adel Zaytout in second place, and Amr Hussein in third. In the Contemporary Ornamentation category, Mahbooba Mahdavi came in first place, Fatima Anan Dudukkho in second, and Zeinab Shahi in third.

    In the Typographic Design category, Yasmine Naeem secured first place, followed by Ali Orei in second place, and Doaa Mohammed AlRashidat Abzaid in third.

    The event included a captivating musical performance titled “Path of Light,” which calls for drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Prophet Mohamed and embodying them in lives.

    The exhibition accompanying the Award, titled “When the Sun Rises on the Horizon,” was attended by His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan. The exhibition includes 60 unique works of art in the fields of calligraphy, ornamentation, poetry, and contemporary art. It offered visitors an immersive interactive experience that embodies the ability of Islamic art to blend classical methods of expression with the spirit of modern creativity in a unique harmony.

    Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority sets a new benchmark for public sector procurement and supply chain management with this certification. 

    Dubai(News Desk):: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the globally acclaimed CIPS Procurement Excellence Programme, demonstrating its leadership and commitment to procurement best practices. The certification, awarded by the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), was presented at RTA’s headquarters in Dubai by Ben Farrell, CEO of CIPS, and Sam Achampong, Regional Director of CIPS MENA.
    This certification, considered one of the most rigorous assessments of procurement capability worldwide, acknowledges RTA’s dedication to advancing procurement and supply chain management. The programme evaluates organisations across critical areas, including governance, process efficiency, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.

      AbuDhabi(News Desk)::As COP29 unfolded in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Waste to Zero initiative marked its one-year anniversary with a renewed focus on accelerating global efforts to decarbonize the waste sector. Originally launched at COP28, Waste to Zero has grown into a powerful coalition aiming to drive impactful, scalable solutions in waste management.The global coalition was initiated by Tadweer Group and endorsed by the UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), supported by Roland Berger. Waste to Zero aims to formalize waste management practices and engage stakeholders worldwide to decarbonize the sector, unlock economic opportunities, and contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts.

    Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), will become Chair of Waste to Zero and steer the initiative’s next phase of impact.

    Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan said: “Transitioning to a more circular economy, in which resources are consumed more mindfully and recycled more efficiently, is a critical aspect of tackling the urgent challenges of climate change.     Erfoud(News Desk)::Under the generous patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, “May God protect him”, the 13th International Date Palm Forum started on Tuesday, 30th of October, 2024, in the city of Erfoud, southern Morocco, under the slogan “Moroccan Oases: For Resilient Systems facing Climate Change,” which is organized by the International Date Palm Forum Association and the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests in official partnership with Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation. H.E. Ahmed AlBawari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, inaugurated the International Date Palm Forum in the presence of Saeed Zniber, Wali of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to a number of central, regional and provincial officials of the ministry, representatives of a number of concerned ministerial sectors, local and security authorities, and civil society activists.

    Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, pointed out that the country’s participation in this framework comes to emphasize the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and their people under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Morocco, “May God protect him,” and H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, “May God protect him,” and the importance of cooperation between date farmers, producers, manufacturers and exporters, at the national, regional and international levels.

    He added that the UAE pavilion included a variety of the best types of Emirati dates that reflect the quality of the country’s agricultural production, in addition to displaying the latest innovations in the field of sustainable agriculture, and techniques for improving date palm productivity and preserving the environment. The pavilion also includes interactive workshops on modern agricultural technology used in the UAE, which enhances the exchange of knowledge and expertise with participants from different countries.

    The number of exhibitors participating under the umbrella of the UAE pavilion reached 32 entities representing the public, private sectors, and civil society working in date palm cultivation and production, including 06 pavilions from the United Arab Emirates, 04 pavilions from the Arab Republic of Egypt, 03 pavilions from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, 02 pavilions from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, 02 pavilions from the United Mexican States, and 03 pavilions from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The UAE delegation participating consists of the following entities: Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, Agthia Company represented by Al Foah Dates Factory, Date Palm Friends Society.

    The Award’s Secretary General pointed out that the UAE’s participation in this forum represents a qualitative and quantitative milestone as an official partner in the forum represented by Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation. This is an opportunity to highlight the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in what the country has achieved in terms of a pioneering position in developing and advancing the date palm cultivation and production sector, manufacturing and exporting dates at the regional and international levels. This is thanks to the directives and support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and the close follow-up of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees. The forum represents an opportunity to exchange experiences between producers, manufacturers and exporters of dates, which have become a strategic economic commodity in the equation of food security and achieving sustainable development.

    Launching of a new book on the Mejhoul variety.
    On the sidelines of the Forum, the Award’s General Secretariat issued a new book in English language entitled “Mejhoul: Importance, Production Techniques, Valorisation and Marketing” in cooperation with the National Institute for Agricultural Research in the Kingdom of Morocco. The book is authored by Dr. Reda Meziani, Coordinator of the Date Palm Research Project at the National Institute for Agricultural Research, Kingdom of Morocco.
    Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, presented a copy of the book to H.E. Ahmed Al Bawari, Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, where he highlighted the fact that we are keen to disseminate specialized scientific knowledge related to the date palm cultivation, production and agricultural innovation sectors in all languages, in commitment to the strategic objectives on which the Award was founded since its establishment in 2007, up to today. The Award’s Secretary General also added that this book comes within the framework of cooperation between the Award’s General Secretariat and the National Institute for Agricultural Research in the Kingdom of Morocco, and on this occasion, we commend the efforts of the Institute and its distinguished experts who have proven their merit and scientific excellence at the regional and international levels.

    Erfoud(News Desk)::In a new achievement added to its impressive record of promoting the dates sector, the United Arab Emirates won the Best Pavilion Award at the 13th International Date Palm Forum 2024, which was held in the city of Erfoud in the Kingdom of Morocco. H.E. Sheikh NahayanMabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, dedicated the UAE Pavilion’s first-place wining at the Erfoud International Date Palm Forum to H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, in appreciation of His Highness’s continuous support for the date palm cultivation and production sector at the national, regional and international levels.

    This came in a press statement by H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, following the announcement of the UAE Pavilion winning infirst place for the Best and Most Luxurious International Pavilion Award at the forum for the thirteenth consecutive time, among the countries participating in the 13th International Date Palm Forum in Erfoud, Kingdom of Morocco, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the presence of Dr. Bashir Saud, Advisor to the Moroccan Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum, Mr. Mehdi Rifi, Director General of the Agricultural Development Agency, Mr. Jamal Mimouni, Regional Director of Agricultural Investment for Draa-Tafilalet, and Mr. Kamal Al Mahasni, Director of the Barfoud Oasis Development Agency.

    This forum hosted at the city of Erfoud, in the Errachidia region, Kingdom of Morocco, during the period October 29 to November 3, 2024, under the generous patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Morocco. The forum was inaugurated by H.E. Ahmed Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.

    Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Award’s Secretary General, stressed that the UAE pavilion this year was distinguished by presenting a variety of luxury dates and innovative solutions to develop the date industry, in addition to highlighting the modern agricultural techniques adopted by the country to increase date palm productivity and maintain the high quality of Emirati dates. The UAE pavilion was not limited to displaying products only, but also included interactive displays and workshops that focused on innovation and sustainable techniques in date palm cultivation. The pavilion also offered visitors the opportunity to taste Emirati dates, which were widely praised by the attendees.

    The Award’s Secretary General also added that with this win, the UAE strengthens its leadership in the global dates market, expressing its desire to enhance cooperation with date-producing countries and exchange expertise, which contributes to developing the sector and achieving its sustainability for future generations.
