Abu Dhabi Police raises awareness among university students about the dangers of drugs

AbuDhabi(News Desk)::Abu Dhabi Police has enhanced awareness of the dangers of drugs among students of the United Arab Emirates University and Al Ain University in an awareness workshop organized by the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain region in its building. The workshop discussed the most important awareness efforts and the negative effects of drugs on members of society, and the implemented initiatives such as “Opportunity of Hope”, “Walk Safely” and the annual campaigns including “Participate with Us to Prevent It”, in addition to the forums and lectures organized by the Directorate according to its strategic plans in various educational institutions and departments and enhancing the efforts of partners in educating the family and youth to reach a country without drug abuse or addiction.

Brigadier Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in the Criminal Security Sector, said that Abu Dhabi Police has placed protecting young people from the dangers of drugs and their painful effects among its priorities, pointing to the role of the family in building society and preserving the behavior of its members, to prevent young people and adolescents from falling into the clutches of addiction.

He stressed the keenness to organize educational lectures in educational institutions and commercial centers, to raise awareness of the harms and types of drugs, the causes of drug abuse and its effects on the individual and society, the concept of addiction in general, how to reduce it and comprehensive prevention methods from its dangers, explaining that comprehensive awareness, including clarification of the dangerous effects resulting from drug abuse, would lead young people to choose purposeful cultural, sports and community activities that develop their ideas and enhance their capabilities in serving their country and families.

Colonel Dr. Salem Obaid Al Ameri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain Region, called for the necessity of cooperation between community institutions, families and youth clubs in attracting young people to benefit them in their community. He stressed the importance of cooperation between various parties in protecting children from the dangers of drugs, and emphasized the importance of joint cooperation with the guidance plans, programs and educational campaigns organized by the department throughout the year, contributing to strengthening family cohesion and protecting it from deviation.
