Date Palm Friends Society holds 2024 Ordinary General Assembly Meeting
H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan: The Society was established in the spirit of love for the Blessed Tree and in loyalty to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “May God bless his soul”
AbuDhabi(News Desk)::Under the directives of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Date Palm Friends Society in the UAE, the Date Palm Friends Society held its general assembly meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Helal Humaid Saed Al Kaabi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Executive Director of the Society, respected members of the Board of Directors and acting members of the society, in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Community Enablement and the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development.
The meeting began with a welcome speech from H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabraak Al Nahayan, delivered on his behalf by H.E. Dr. Helal Humaid Saeed Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Society, who praised the efforts made to achieve the Society’s goals aimed at enhancing the status of the date palm tree as a symbol of national heritage and Emirati culture, stressing on the fact that the importance of community partnership in supporting the Society’s programs and initiatives.
H.E. Sheikh Nahayan, added that we stand today to review our achievements in the past year, and to set our future plans that aim to enhance the role of the society as a source of cultural and environmental influence, and a platform that brings together date palm tree lovers from across the UAE. This society was established in the spirit of love to the date palm tree, the tree of generosity and giving, and in loyalty to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan AL Nahyan, “May God bless his soul”, the date palm tree that was and still a witness to the agricultural renaissance in the United Arab Emirates, under the wise leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, “May God protect him”.
During his speech, the Executive Director of the Society reviewed the most important achievements made by the Society during the past year, including organizing awareness events, launching innovative projects in the field of agricultural sustainability, and strengthening partnerships with local and regional entities.
Dr. Zaid also added that we at the Date Palm Friends Society believe that the date palm tree is not just a symbol of Emirati heritage and culture, but an integral part of our national identity and daily life. Based on this, we have worked hard over the past year to implement qualitative initiatives and projects that enhance the status of the date palm tree and contribute to spreading awareness of its environmental, economic and cultural importance. Dr. Zaid stressed that the Society is always welcoming to every constructive idea and initiative that aims to enhance our common message.
The meeting included discussing and presenting the Society’s annual financial and administrative reports, which reflected the positive growth in activities and programs implemented, in addition to approving future work plans and projects that aim to enhance the Society’s role in spreading awareness about the importance of the date palm tree, and its positive role in the environment and society.
At the end of the meeting, the floor was open to respected members for discussion to present their suggestions and ideas to develop the Society’s performance, where the interventions were greatly welcomed by the Board of Directors, which confirmed its commitment to achieving the aspirations of the members and the community.It is worth noting that the Date Palm Friends Society was established in 2003, with the aim of preserving the date palm tree as one of the most important symbols of national heritage, where it seeks to spread the culture of sustainability and enhance the position of the date palm tree in the environment and the national economy of the United Arab Emirates.
