AbuDhabi(News Desk)::In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, the headquarters of the Dusit Thani Hotel in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi witnessed, on Wednesday 11/30/2022, the launch of the activities of the twelfth edition of the World for Arabian Racing Horses Forum, as part of the activities of the fourteenth edition. From the racing festival of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in conjunction with the celebrations of the 51st anniversary of the Union Day, with the participation of (300) personalities from all over the world in all disciplines.

First session:

The first session of the forum, which was titled “Challenges in Arabian Horse Races”, was moderated by Abdul Razzaq Mohammadi, with the participation of elite trainers.

Hilal Al-Alawi, Jean Dorwall, Ernst Oertel, Ibrahim Al-Hadrami, and Thomas Forsey spoke at the session, and the discussion revolved around the common challenges facing coaches, owners, horses, and the work team in the stable.

A horse is a sea that has no shore::The speakers unanimously agreed that the relationship between the trainer and the owner, the movement of horses, the short period of the season, the horse training program in this hot climate in the Gulf region, which lasts for 3 months, and the lack of a staff that leaves after training in the stable are the biggest challenges, and the horse was described as a “sea”. The speakers recommended the need to regulate the relationship between the owner, the trainer and the work team by making contracts to guarantee the rights of the parties, so that there is trust and preservation of the rights of all, and to advance the date of major races such as the Crown Jewel to be in the month of January, so that the Gulf horses are ready to face the horses coming from abroad, which will be Her cold weather helps her to be ready as her racing season ends.

Second session:

The second session of the global forum, entitled “The Future of Arabian Horse Racing,” moderated by Masoud Saleh, witnessed an extensive discussion of the challenges facing the renaissance of this important segment.Participating in the discussion were Faisal Al-Rahmani, Muhammad Saeed Al-Shehhi, Muhammad Essa Al-Azab, Salem bin Mahfouz, Mutaib Al-Shammari, Saleh Al-Mahrzi, and Kim Elliot.

Tangible development

Faisal Al-Rahmani, President of the International Federation “Afhar”, said that the Arab races witnessed a significant increase and tangible development at a rate of 3 times over the past four years, and they are living their golden age with the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Director General of the Emirates Equine Authority, confirmed that the purebred Arabian horse races witnessed a great development through the full program of participation in the UAE, as the number of Arabian horses that participated exceeded the purebred horses, which reached 2712 horses and 217 races.The speakers concluded that the renaissance of Arabian horse racing requires a significant increase in races and an increase in owners and producers, despite the development witnessed by many countries, in addition to increasing prizes and sponsors, cooperation between the Gulf states and other countries for import and export systems, and discussing new ideas to complement the system.

Third session

The focus of the third session was “Horse Breeding” and the topic of improving the reproduction of horses and how to achieve success in this field. The session was moderated by Philip Brennan, with the participation of a group of owners, breeders and those interested in the Arabian horse industry.

During the session, Sheikh Hamed Al Hamed, Khaled Al Naboodah, and Dr. Haitham Babiker, Emmanuel Cisse, Paul Buscan, Hassan Mosly, and Patrick Lombrell.

The speakers agreed on the need to start with what the others concluded, follow up on nutrition and pay attention to the veterinary process, and clarify regulatory regulations, including artificial insemination to not exhaust the obstetric mare, educate the owners and enhance knowledge, learning and research in line with genetics, learning from mistakes and preserving the characteristics of the Arabian horse.

Regarding the challenges facing breeders in the Arabian Gulf region, Khaled Al Naboodah said that the challenges are strong because of the hot weather, so the distinctive breed of stallion and mare must be chosen, the water analyzed to find out the percentage of salinity, increasing the deficiencies in fodder (nutrition), preparing the horse before sending it to the trainer, and sharing horses at the age of Four years instead of three.

The sessions will continue on the second day of the forum, on Thursday 12/01/2022, starting at ten in the morning, with media and public relations leading the fourth session.

The fifth session of the forum begins at 1:30 pm, entitled “The Role of Women in the Sport of Arabian Horse Racing”, and then the forum concludes its work at 3:30 pm, with the sixth session entitled “Social Media in Spreading the Sport of Arabian Horse Racing”.
